Are you Parenting a Child Whose Behavior Can Be Challenging? Disruptive? Impulsive? Defiant?
Do you find that you begin each day, promising yourself you will be patient with your child, but then find your nerves are frayed? Have you noticed that the more conflict there is between you and your child, the worse you both seem to feel and act? Are you feeling sad and guilty because this is not how you intended to parent your child?
Our Psychologists can help!
Problematic behaviors such as defiance, inability to follow directions, and aggression, strain the parent-child relationship. As a result, parent-child interactions become increasingly negative and parents find themselves constantly locked in a power struggle. Fortunately, just like negative interactions tend to spur more negative interactions, positive interactions can also spur more positive interactions.
Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) is an innovative treatment that teaches parents a set of play skills that foster the type of positive interactions that strengthen and enhance to parent-child relationship, resulting in less conflict.
When interactions between parents and child are restructured and become increasingly positive, disruptive behavior declines and the child’s relationship with his family improves. PCIT has been shown to effectively reduce disruptive behavior. Children learn how to control their problematic behavior, and parents experience more confidence in their ability to respond effectively to their child’s challenging behavior.
